A treadmill fitness program can slide in nicely with almost any plan for getting into or staying in shape. Whether the chosen pace is walk, jog or run, by using a treadmill, fitness buffs can eliminate excuses such as rain, snow or unbearable heat that might prevent them from getting a good, solid workout. What’s even better is that by using a treadmill fitness routine in your workout program, you can enjoy the radio, your favorite movie or even a good book while putting miles a day on your sneaker treads.
Whether you’re a workout pro or creating a new treadmill workout program to get in shape, it makes good sense to speak with a doctor before adding a treadmill fitness component to your exercise routine. Since walking and running provide a great cardiovascular workout, it’s just plain smart to make sure your doctor has a chance to recommend how much or how little is right for you when it comes to working out.
If you’re using an electric model and just starting out with a fitness routine, be sure to set any pre-programmed treadmill program features to the easiest settings. Try the lower settings for a while and see how you do. If you body holds up well, it should be all right to move on to a more challenging course. Should you want to mimic an outdoor walk or run as closely as possible with your treadmill fitness routine, be sure to include at least a 2 degree incline to make up for the belt’s movement in electric models. Even better, if your machine will allow and you’re up to it, use one of the programs that changes incline and speed as you go. This will increase the challenge and help prevent your treadmill walking workouts from becoming boring.
For professionals and beginners, the addition of a treadmill fitness routine to a solid workout regime is a great decision. Treadmills offer an added boost for weight loss programs, cardiovascular health and muscle toning. Be sure to take it easy and only exert as much as your own body will allow comfortably. It doesn’t pay to push too hard on one day and be forced to skip workouts for days after.
